This is a real picture, upper part direction north. Apulia's territory is located in the eastern part of Italy and is the first region in Italy that can see the sunrise every day. The eastern point of Apulia is Capo d' Otranto. Otranto is a small city, but wonderful to visit, with his castle and the seaside. Close to Otranto you'll find Alimini Lakes. Otranto was the core of the scenes of the romance "The Otranto Castle" by Horace Walpole. The southern part of Italy is Capo Santa Maria di Leuca and is the place where you can stay astonished looking at the Adriatic sea mixing with Mediterranean. Turning this corner there is the Ionic seaside, that will surprise you with its beauty and its history. Marina di Ugento and Gallipoli are paradise for camping oriented visitors: Beaches have wonderful sand and crystalline water. The nightlife is one of the best you can find in Italy, in this region the population is really open minded! Don't forget to give a look to Porto Badisco and Lido Silvana. Taranto and the Ionic sea was the original Magna Grecia. Around the Magna Grecia area, close to the seaside, you can find as well archaeological site regarding Romans age (Cittą di Manduria; here don't forget to taste the Primitive wine from the Consorzio dei Produttori del Vino di Manduria). When the border of Apulia left the sea it is shared with another Italian region: Basilicata, the ancient Lucania. These two regions was for long time considered a bigger region called Appulo-Lucania. In Basilicata visitors can find reasons to spend part of their journey visiting Matera, the wonderful city with the so called "Sassi di Matera" area. In this place Mel Gibson took the scenes of "The Passion", the sightsee is absolutely unbelievable! In Basilicata visitors have to see the ruins of Metaponto, the Pollino Mountains complex and the Maratea beach as well. Going along Apulia's border we will encounter the border shared with Campania. Campania is the Italian region who was for a long time taking the southern Italy under its power with the so called "Regno delle due Sicilie", managed by the Bourbons family. The Campania region is really full of things to see! I just recommend you to visit specific internet sites about it. Leaving Campania we are facing Molise, the smallest Italian region, but with a wonderful nature and very special communities populating it. The northern part of the Apulia region is the so called "Gargano" area. The Gargano area is as well known as the "Sacra mountain". This place is extremely rich of spirituality and was targeted from the crossed soldiers as peregrinating point before to leave to the Saint Land. The place visited from the crossed soldiers is the "Church of San Michele Arcangelo" in Monte Sant' Angelo city. This is a rare beautiful complex compounded by a church in a cave and a medieval construction. In front of the church you'll find a wonderful castle made by Normans with Roberto il Guiscardo in the XI century and used by Aragon's up to the XVI century. This castle was as well used by Frederick II and his wife Bianca Lancia. Seems that in this castle born Manfred, the legendary Frederick's son. Not far from Monte Sant'Angelo there is San Giovanni Rotondo, the city of the world famous padre Pio da Pietralcina. Saint Pio da Pietralcina is an incredible figure of modern saint. It was able to do any kind of miracle during and after its life. Let you be fascinated from this Saint and forget the commercial activities affecting this city...Turning around the Gargano promontory you'll fall in love with the seaside: so wild and never looking the same! From the city of Vieste you'll be able to reach the Tremiti Islands, a natural reserve, but even more: a natural paradise! On these Islands there are Hotels were you can stay and forget the rest of the world. Going along the Gargano coast you'll find Mattinata city a very pleasant place to stay. Moving on, the next step is to visit Manfredonia; drive through it and reach Margherita di Savoia. In this small city you'll find the bigger Italian Saline site. It's a natural reserve and during the migratory period it is a rest for all the bird species crossing Italy. Leaving Margherita di Savoia and driving to Bari is a wonderful subsequence of marine cities like Barletta, Trani (exceptional Roman Cathedral and very good muscatel wine), Bisceglie and Giovinazzo (astonishing historical centre on the sea). Take a bit of time to visit the historical centre of all this cities. Once you're in Bari you have a lot to visit in the city. Took all the materials you can from the info point in the airport, at the port or at the central train station and go for it! Bari's "living rooms" in the night are Piazza del Ferrarese and Torre a Mare (5km out of Bari, direction South). Between Bari and Otranto, closing our tour on the Apulia borders, visit the city of Mola di Bari and its castle, Polignano (here was born the famous singer Domenico Modugno, mister "Volare") and Monopoli. These two cities are famous for the nightlife. In Polignano the "movida" is all in and around the old city, in Monopoly there are a lot of wonderful sand beaches with disco along the night. These are just speedy indications about the border around Apulia. There are thousands more of things to see, please visit the details about "what to see" in this site. Apulia's leght: 360 Km:
